Touchscreen not working? Your HDMI or USB could be to blame…

So, you’ve just returned from the summer holidays and are raring to go. Whether you’re an experienced touchscreen user or have had a new screen installed over the holidays to replace the old, tired interactive whiteboard, this article is for you.

Imagine it, you have planned an exciting lesson using your piece of EdTech, you’re getting set-up to teach but then disaster strikes… the board just won’t work. Don’t panic! Here’s what you need to know. 

HDMI vs USB, what’s the difference? 

It probably all sounds very technical, but there isn’t really anything ground-breaking you need to be aware of when it comes to HDMI and USB. 

Essentially, the HDMI cable you use when you plug in your laptop is responsible for making sure that video and sound is conveyed to your touchscreen, but that’s where it stops.  

The USB cable on the other hand is responsible solely for the touch element of the screen, not the video and/ or sound.  

The majority of our support calls with schools are relating to issues with video, sound or the functionality of the touch. Most of the time it’s a quick fix that as a teacher, you can do yourself, minimising disruption to your lessons whilst giving you the confidence to use the EdTech to it’s full potential.
